Port authorities are presently engaged in a number of major expansion projects aimed at increasing the capacity and competitiveness of their ports, with many new terminals and hinterland infrastructure projects underway in the region. In this session, the senior leadership from port authorities and operators will be invited to discuss what their plans are to ensure the future competitiveness of their ports.

With the number of upcoming mega-projects, the East African region represents an area of significant potential for investors, both foreign and domestic. This session will discuss best practices to attract investment for projects expansion, and explore how business and government can collaborate to address emerging economic realities.

This session will address the operational challenges that port, shipping, international logistics and supply chain operators face nowadays and explain how to develop a regional and global framework for managing the security of trading and supply chain systems.
1:20 pm - 2:00 pm Interactive panel discussion: Change drivers – multistakeholder collaboration
Successful ports development and expansion in the region depends on on-going collaboration between many different stakeholders. Regulators, operators, shipping lines, cargo owners and maritime services need to find ways to align their interests to ensure continued port competitiveness and contribute to raising the standards of the maritime system.
This panel discussion will provide an overview of the following points:

- Globalisation of shipping lines and port operators
